Story

Before the Nanomachine Infection

Chihiro Morimura was a nanotechnology researcher and former executive of Newmen Incorporated. She was the pupil of Tamao Kurabe, and had some form of respect toward Kengo Ogata. Because of her respect for Kengo, Morimura was the one who brought him back as an AI after his passing in 2187. Morimura's company was soon after acquired by Shikishima Industries' CEO, Renya Gouto, and she began to create designs for interstellar development and Project Ark under the guidance of Kengo Ogata. Unknowingly, Morimura and her plans were being used by Gouto to cover up an illegal slush fund that Shikishima used to become a monopoly.

Because of her sheer dedication to Project Ark, and because of Kengo Ogata's counsel, Morimura began to sell innerlocitors (also known as nanomachines) on the black market to raise funds for her projects, which led to the nanomachine infection. When Morimura's innerlocitors and crimes caught the eye of ethic commitees and international agencies, Gouto feared that his own crimes would be revealed through subsequent investigations. So right before the nanomachine incident grew out of control, he hired Ei Sekigahara to assasinate Morimura. When the nanomachine infection began to threaten the very survival of humanity, Morimura was able to board the 2188 colony along with her partner; Juro Izumi.

On the Colony

After escaping the nanomachine incident and boarding the 2188 colony, it can be assumed that Chihiro donated her DNA for Project Ark. While testing the DNA for cloning, she discovers that Tsukasa Okino is her son. Morimura continues to secretly take advice from Kengo Ogata, and together with her fellow scientists, she continues work on Project Ark and finishes designing the nanotechnology neccessary for its success. She even records a commendation message for the 15 clones, which plays whenever they "graduate" the program.

Death

Chihiro Morimura is in sector 4 of the colony when Ei Sekigahara decides to kill her. Morimura, anticipating Ei's assassination for a while now, locks him in a room to protect herself. However, what Morimura did not anticipate was that Ei would place a remote bomb at the power generator. As the bomb goes off, and the door unlocks from power depletion, Morimura pleads for her life. However, all Ei cares about now is taking his own revenge on she who destroyed mankind.

After Morimura's death, Juro Izumi is heartbroken. In order to honor her work and commitment, Izumi inserts a Morimura AI into Project Ark's data. He then edits the program in hopes that the Morimura AI's memory and personality will overwrite the clone's, and the 2188 Chihiro Morimura can lead Project Ark in that new body.
