Story

Before the Nanomachine Infection

Nenji Ogata was the new CEO of Shikishima Industries, after his father, Kengo Ogata, passed away. In stark contrast to his father, Nenji refused any funding or research for Project Ark, describing it as a "self-satisfying endeavor." When Natsuno Minami asked Nenji for further funds, Nenji outright requested that the research be discarded as a whole and funding suspended. This leads to Chihiro Morimura seeking funds from dubious sources, selling nanomachines on the black market, and finally the nanomachine infection. When the infection starts to threaten humanity's very survival, Nenji Ogata escapes to the uninfected 2188 colony.

On the Colony

After escaping the nanomachine incident and boarding the 2188 colony, it can be assumed that Nenji donated his DNA for Project Ark. Although he wasn't a formal scientist, his sheer muscle, basic knowledge of nanomachinery, and business leadership skills could have made him good a good security guard or overseer.

Death

After Ei Sekigahara blew up the power generator to assassinate Morimura, there were disputes on what the colonists should use their remaining energy for. The colonists either had to use the rest of the energy for Project Ark, or use the rest of the energy to keep life support going. Tsukasa Okino and Takatoshi Hijiyama were for using energy to keep life support operational, while Juro Izumi and Nenji Ogata wanted to devote the remaining energy to Project Ark. Eventually, the debate grew so heated that Juro Izumi shot Tsukasa Okino, and a shootout between the colonists broke out. Since Nenji was on Juro's side, Takatoshi shot and killed Nenji in vengeance for Okino.
