Shikishima's Tenebrous Hired Help

The Ei Sekigahara of 2188 was one of the 15 residents of the 2188 space colony. Although he arrived at the colony under the aegis of the 2188 Renya Gouto, he is actually an assassin tasked with killing the 2188 Chihiro Morimura.

Story

Before the Nanomachine Infection

Ei Sekigahara was a professional (and perhaps sociopathic) assassin before the nanomachine infection. He was hired by the 2188 Renya Gouto to assasinate Chihiro Morimura, under the pretense that her continued work on Project Ark was a detriment to Shikishima Industries' funds. Ei, however, discovered the true reason for Gouto's hit. The investigations into Morimura's black market nanomachines were beginning to shed light on Shikishima Industries as a whole, and Gouto began to worry that the illegal slush fund he used to acquire Morimura's company would be discovered. Although Ei had all this information to blackmail Gouto with, he still proceeds with the hit, bluntly stating that dealing with Gouto would be "a waste of time."

Shortly after Gouto hired and payed Sekigahara, the nanomachines began to spread, infect, and kill like a plague. The 2188 colony became the last safe haven for humanity, and Gouto arrived to the colony along with Ei Sekigahara as his bodyguard.

On the Colony

After escaping the nanomachine incident and boarding the 2188 colony, it can be assumed that Ei donated his DNA for Project Ark. Because Gouto had allowed him to live on the colony, it can be assumed Ei served or at least posed as Gouto's personal bodyguard.

Chihiro Morimura was in sector 4 of the colony when Ei Sekigahara decides to kill her for his own personal vengeance. After doing research on Morimura as a target, Ei eventually deduced that she was the one responsible for selling the nanomachines that destroyed mankind. When Ei attempts to assasinate her, Morimura locked him in a room to protect herself, as she anticipated his assassination attempt. However, what Morimura did not anticipate was that Ei would place a remote bomb at the power generator. As the bomb went off, the door to the room Ei was in unlocked from power depletion, and Morimura pleaded for her life. However, all Ei cared about at that moment was taking his own revenge on she who destroyed mankind.

Death

While it is currently unknown how the 2188 Ei died, it can be inferred that he died after Chihiro Morimura and before Ryoko Shinonome and Tetsuya Ida.

Etymology

• The name Ei means "crystal" (瑛).
• Ei's surname Sekigahara means "barrier, gate" (関) (seki) and "field, plain" (原) (hara).
