Before Dawn
Higoromo-cho Abandoned Factory Alley
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Looks like it's almost dawn.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: This is about where I last saw him...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: He has to be close by.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: That bastard kicked like a horse.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Pretty tough for a thug.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: He almost had me for a moment there...
Consider: Kiriko Douji
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Professor Douji led the Sentinel Project for our efforts in the war.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: His daughter, Kiriko-san, came along with him, but...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...What does it mean if this isn't her?
Consider: Tsukasa Okino
Takatoshi Hijiyama: This can't be true, can it?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Was the Kiriko Douji I knew... really a man?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: This "Tsukasa Okino"?
Examine: Abandoned Factory Door
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Looks like it's locked.
Takatoshi Hijiyama goes back down the stairs, and starts to walk away. As he does, the door to the abandoned factory opens. Tsukasa Okino, dressed as Kiriko Douji in the 1985 version of Sakura High's uniform, exits and descends the stairs.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...!
Kiriko Douji: Guess you found me.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Kiriko-san...
Kiriko Douji: Were you looking for me all night?
Kiriko Douji: Still as reckless as ever, huh?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Don't try to talk around it.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I... I know who you are under those clothes.
Kiriko Douji: I figured you'd be here soon, so.
Kiriko Douji: Got some breakfast for you, too.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Half a year I've been searching for you.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Half a year, thinking of what I'd say to your face.
Kiriko Douji: I got you some yakisoba pan...
Kiriko Douji: You didn't get any yesterday, right?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: You... got yakisoba pan for me...?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Look, th-that's not the point!
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Take me back to my own time.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: We're going whether you like it or not.
Kiriko Douji: And if I say no?
Kiriko Douji: What'll you do, push me over? Pin me down?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I-I would never!
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Besides, you're a man, aren't you?
Tsukasa Okino walks over to Takatoshi Hijiyama, standing right next to him.
Kiriko Douji: Why don't you find out?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...
Takatoshi Hijiyama steps away, blushing.
Kiriko Douji: Go ahead, I'll hear you out.
Kiriko Douji: Well?
Kiriko Douji: Kiriko Douji
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Why disguise yourself as Kiriko-san?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Even convincing everyone you were a girl...?
Kiriko Douji: Professor Douji thought it'd be a good idea.
Kiriko Douji: See, he's...
Kiriko Douji: Well, all Shikishima's tech really began with him.
Kiriko Douji: Shikishima made incredible strides after the war.
Kiriko Douji: And a lot of that was thanks to his work.
Kiriko Douji: Though it didn't hurt that I taught him about his future's technology.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: But why?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Why would you make that deal with him?
Kiriko Douji: ...For the Sentinel.
Kiriko Douji: Tsukasa Okino
Takatoshi Hijiyama: So you're actually Tsukasa Okino?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Why do you wear women's clothes?
Kiriko Douji: Doesn't feel great to hear you say it like that.
Kiriko Douji: You weren't complaining when you confessed to me.
Takatoshi Hijiyama blushes again.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...
Kiriko Douji: I'm not exactly the picture of masculinity anyway.
Kiriko Douji: Better than trying to pass as some militant with a buzzcut.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: So why are you dressed like that now?
Kiriko Douji: Because I know you like it.
Takatoshi Hijiyama blushes again.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: U-Uh...
Kiriko Douji: You're a funny guy, Hijiyama-kun.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...
Kiriko Douji: Let's say some binaries work for me, and others don't.
Kiriko Douji: This lets me hide the fact that I'm even alive.
Kiriko Douji: Sentinel
Takatoshi Hijiyama: So what did you plan to do with the Sentinel?
Tsukasa Okino: It was an accident that it showed up at all.
Tsukasa Okino: It was never meant to be there.
Tsukasa Okino: I mean, come on. You've seen it.
Tsukasa Okino: You think they could make that back in the 1940s?
Tsukasa Okino: Even here in the '80s, it's out of our league.
Tsukasa Okino: That's not human craftsmanship.
Tsukasa Okino: It was made in the future, in an automated factory.
Tsukasa Okino: Let me put it in layman's terms:
Tsukasa Okino: There was an accident, and it got broken.
Tsukasa Okino: Our goal was to fix it there so it could fight again.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: But wasn't it meant to be used against the USA?
Tsukasa Okino: ...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Then who or what was it made to fight...?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Never mind.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I have to get back, no matter what.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: If we can finish the Sentinel Project,
Takatoshi Hijiyama: we can win the war.
Tsukasa Okino: ...You're a good guy, but kind of an open book, you know that?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Say whatever you want.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I don't care who you really are anymore.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Just get me home.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I know about the air raids. And Okinawa, Hiroshima, Nagasaki...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I can't just let those attacks happen. I can't let those people die.
Tsukasa Okino: So you did some reading in the history section.
Tsukasa Okino: Between all the manual labour you've been doing,
Tsukasa Okino: and your living conditions—or, well, lack thereof,
Tsukasa Okino: You're a lot more determined than I expected.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: You've been keeping tabs on me...?
Tsukasa Okino: I do have one suggestion.
Tsukasa Okino: There's something I still need to do.
Tsukasa Okino: And that something is here in 1985.
Tsukasa Okino: I just need you to wait until that's finished.
Tsukasa Okino: Actually, I'd really appreciate your help with it.
Tsukasa Okino: It does involve you, after all.
Tsukasa Okino: When it's finally all over,
Tsukasa Okino: then...
Tsukasa Okino: You can ask me to do whatever you want.
Takatoshi Hijiyama blushes again.
Tsukasa Okino: How's that sound?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: A-anything I want...?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: No, I...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: What I want is to go back to my own time.
Tsukasa Okino: If you're sure.
Tsukasa Okino: Still, think it over.
Tsukasa Okino: My base is over there on the second floor.
Tsukasa Okino walks away, stopping when Takatoshi Hijiyama calls out to him.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Where are you going?
Tsukasa Okino: I'm wearing the uniform. Where do you think?
Tsukasa Okino: Oh, right.
Tsukasa Okino: Your yakisoba pan's on the desk inside.
Takatoshi Hijiyama blushes again, stomach growling.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...
Tsukasa Okino: Wow, was that your stomach?
Tsukasa Okino: You haven't eaten anything since yesterday, huh?
Tsukasa Okino: Go ahead. The door's unlocked.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: You can't trick me with food. I'm not an animal.
Tsukasa Okino: Stop being stubborn and go get some breakfast.
Takatoshi Hijiyama heads up the stairs, entering the abandoned factory. He exits holding a yakisoba pan.
Consider: Yakisoba Pan
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Noodles stir-fried in sauce, enfolded in sweetened bread...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I don't trust much in this post-war world...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: But if there's one exception, it's my yakisoba pan.
Takatoshi Hijiyama descends the stairs, and Tsukasa Okino is gone.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Where'd he go now...?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Maybe he really was just manipulating me...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...Well, it is yakisoba pan.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Not much I could do...
Consider: The Uniform...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: If he's in that uniform, he's probably going to school...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: But what's he trying to accomplish there?
Yakisoba Pan: Eat
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Well, as long as I've got it...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...So good...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: This sauce is so sweet, yet so spicy...!
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Mm... That hit the spot.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: For now, I should find Okino again.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: It won't do me any good if he slips away.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I might as well check my old school...
Takatoshi Hijiyama runs off after Okino.
