Sakura High School Wooden Building
Takatoshi Hijiyama enters the old wooden building, facing toward the windows.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: This building had just been finished when I knew it...
Takatoshi Hijiyama turns back around.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...Now, well... it's certainly seen better days.
Consider: Sentinel
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Is she serious?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: She says the built the Sentinel herself, but...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Reminisce
Takatoshi Hijiyama: It feels like just yesterday...
Takatoshi Hijiyama faces toward the window once again.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I walked these very halls to pick up Keitaro.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: And now, four decades have passed in the blink of an eye. Like a fairy tale...[1]
The light streaming through the window intensifies, and the scene changes. Takatoshi Hijiyama looks as he did half a year ago, his hair short and dressed in his uniform as he waits for Keitaro Miura. Tamao Kurabe approaches with Kiriko Douji, and Keitaro Miura is at his side. The scene is a fantasy version of the events of Sentinel Pilot Cadets.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: And this young lady would be?
Tamao Kurabe: Oh, that's Kiriko-chan. She came to us from Tokyo.
Kiriko Douji: I'm Kiriko Douji.
Slowly, all figures other than Kiriko Douji and Takatoshi Hijiyama disappear from the scene.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Why, Miss, you're... you're stunning.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: My name is Takatoshi Hijiyama.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I'm going to remember this day forever.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Because... it was the day you came into my life.
Kiriko Douji: You're a funny guy...
Kiriko Douji: But you seem pretty incredible yourself, Takatoshi-san.
The scene changes again, shifting back to reality. Takatoshi Hijiyama is talking to himself, and Tsukasa Okino (dressed as a girl) stands before him in the same spot that Kiriko Douji was in.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: O-Oh, no, I don't know about that...
Tsukasa Okino: So what's got you all bashful and smiley in here?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Kiriko-san!
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I mean, Okino...
Tsukasa Okino steps closer.
Tsukasa Okino: You really are a funny guy...
Takatoshi Hijiyama blushes.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: ...
Tsukasa Okino: You could've just taken a nap at my place...
Tsukasa Okino: I didn't think you'd come running after me.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I'm not about to let you get away from me.
Tsukasa Okino: I showed you my hideout. Why bother trying to run now?
Tsukasa Okino: Still don't trust me, huh?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I want to know everything about what you're trying to accomplish.
Tsukasa Okino: I see...
Tsukasa Okino: Well, fair enough.
Tsukasa Okino: The question is... are you even going to believe me?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I've already learned for myself that time travel is real.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: At this point, nothing surprises me anymore.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: No more secrets. What are you trying to do?
Tsukasa Okino: I'm trying to stop the apocalypse.
Tsukasa Okino: A force is already on its way here to destroy the world.
Tsukasa Okino: And they've got more numbers on their side than we'll ever have.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: What are they?
Tsukasa Okino: I'm not really concerned with what they are.
Tsukasa Okino: What I want to know is... why are they coming?
Tsukasa Okino: The answer is in something called the D-Code.
Tsukasa Okino: Let me try and break this down for you...
Tsukasa Okino: There are other humans with modifications, like you and Miura-kun.
Tsukasa Okino: And they're beaming out these signals calling the destroyers here.
Tsukasa Okino: Even though they have no idea.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: How do I even respond to that...?
Tsukasa Okino: See? I knew you wouldn't believe me.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Th-That's not what I said.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: I just don't know how to imagine the scale of this. An apocalypse...?
Tsukasa Okino: Sentinel
Takatoshi Hijiyama: This other threat you said the Sentinels were meant to fight...
Takatoshi Hijiyama: Are you saying it's them? These destroyers?
Tsukasa Okino: They're a huge threat, all right.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: And these people with modifications like me—they're calling them here?
Takatoshi Hijiyama: But weren't those implants only added so we could pilot the Sentinels in the first place?
Tsukasa Okino: Well, I made the Sentinels, sure.
Tsukasa Okino: But I'm not the one who modified all of you.
Tsukasa Okino: There's too many unknowns with the innerlocitor.
Tsukasa Okino: That's what I'm looking into.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: So there are other Sentinel pilots beyond Keitaro and I...
Tsukasa Okino: A whole lot of them.
Tsukasa Okino: Inner-lossiter
Takatoshi Hijiyama: So this inner-lossiter...?
Tsukasa Okino: It's like a little network of tiny machines.
Tsukasa Okino: It has to be implanted into your body.
Takatoshi Hijiyama: So what do you want me to do now...?
Tsukasa Okino: Everybody's supposed to be in class right now.
Tsukasa Okino: You'll stick out if you're on school grounds.
Tsukasa Okino: We can't have you wandering around where staff can see you.
Tsukasa Okino: It'd definitely be a liability for me, at least...
Tsukasa Okino: There'll be more of a crowd when lunch period rolls around.
Tsukasa Okino: Until then, you should hang out here.
Tsukasa Okino turns, and walks away.

Notes

  1. In Japanese, Hijiyama refers to a specific fairy tale, Urashima Tarou (浦島太郎).
